Day Three - The Oregon Coast
(See all the amazing photos at this link: —> Oregon Coast )
We are not comfortable with the term “retired”, as we will both be working as much as we need/can once we get settled. But, one big difference is that our timetable is almost entirely in our control now. That is a new and very strange feeling. As our theme song indicates “enjoying the passage of time” & “might as well enjoy the ride”. So setting out from Jim’s place to the Oregon Coast, we had to keep reminding ourselves that we can do whatever we want, take detours, stop and enjoy, relax and not be on any time restriction. It’s a great thought, but actually became difficult to realize.
First off, we had to book an AirBnB for the night as we had no friends or family on this route. And after spending so much time enjoying ourselves and taking our time, we suddenly realized we were not going to make it to our AirBnB if we didn’t hurry up. Ugh! So much for no time-constraints, ha! So this became a bit of a struggle for the entire trip, setting realistic goals for travel each day so we don’t get under too much pressure to get somewhere.
So, the Oregon Coast! Literally our first time to see it and wow! All you who knew how amazing it was and didn’t tell me, I think you might have been trying to hide it! We allowed ourselves one single day to drive all this?! Very dumb of us. We could hardly keep ourselves from stopping every few miles to get out and take pics and enjoy the beauty of it all. Alas, we ran out of time and had to hit the gas to get to our AirBnB, having to drive two hours in the dark, something we had hoped to avoid on this trip. We gotta plan better. But, the last thing we saw was the sun setting and that was special. What a day! Should have been three!
