Another 40+ Reunion in San Diego, Doors, Mexican Tiles, and More!
San Diego became our home-away-from-home for more than a week! We stayed with Ron & Anneke, friends whom we had not seen in 40+ years, from way back in London. They took us into their home for what we had thought at first was only going to be two days, three at most, but it turned into our home-base for a while. They also had an extra room for our son Jamie who had come down there with us, and he stayed the first two days as well.
They were such great hosts and made us feel right at home and so very welcome. We had a fun time talking, catching up on a lot of those in-between years, watching movies, enjoying great meals and Anneke’s favorite white wine, which became our favorite too. They invited friends over for dinner, and one couple happened to be David Rugely & Joyce, more old friends, again from 40+ years ago. Wow! So great to meet up and reconnect after so long.
Nearing 3000 miles on this drive so far, I needed some maintenance done on our car. Ron got that done for us at his mechanic, also his gift to us. It was super nice, as it happened right away and was all done in one day. I had dreaded having to make an appointment with Toyota for that, doubting they could schedule it quickly. Super cool, Ron, thanks!
Ron makes doors! Sounds simple enough, but his doors are WOW! Custom-made-to-order wood doors delivered all over the US. And Anneke runs her own Mexican tile biz, with an incredible selection of amazingly colorful Mexican tiles. We got to go on a drive with her to Mexico to pick up a load of tiles. Very interesting to see how she makes all that happen. Bonus was stopping at one of the better taco places you’re likely to find anywhere, worth the trip just for that!
We feel blessed to have reconnected with such great people.
